HAPPY NEW YEAR
I am happy to report that we had a very successful Christmas
Wreath fund raiser this year. We made 186 wreaths over
all, 30 more than last year. More importantly, we sold
19 more than last year. The turn out of members working
on this project was terrific. We worked very hard gathering
our greens and three days making the wreaths. I wish to
give a special thanks to Claire Grieve for a super job
as chairman. Good Job everyone!
There were thirty five members and guests at our annual
Christmas Luncheon held this year at Ashley’s Restaurant
in Lakeport. A good time was had by all. We also had quite
a few boxes of food and toys collected to help make a brighter
Christmas for some people in need. The food was distributed
through the Lakeport Elks Club and the toys by the Lakeport
Fire Department.
January 18, 2005 will be our first meeting in this new
year. We have numerous items to decide upon, so hope you
will plan to attend. We will be treated to a program by
Nona Carpenter, Past Mendo Lake District Director, Past
President of Ukiah Garden Club and Redwood Arrangers, on
flower arranging. She is a very talented arranger.
The Mendo Lake District Winter Board Meeting is to be
hosted by the Ukiah Garden
Club at their Garden House, 1203 West Clay Street, Ukiah,
CA on January 26, 2005. You are invited to attend this
meeting and meet the C.G.C.I. President, Bob Gordon, who
will be their guest. The luncheon is $10. Make checks payable
to Ukiah Garden Club and mail to P. O. Box447, Ukiah, CA
95482. Reservations must be in by Jan 21st.
The February 15, 2005 meeting will be preceded by a 10
A.M. workshop on Gourd Birdhouses led by Marilyn Crayton
and Jan Kespohl. There will be a $2.00 charge for materials.
This will be a fun thing to learn! Plan to attend.
This year’s Daffodil Tea is on March 15, 2005 and
will again be held at the Bachelor Valley Grange Hall in
Upper Lake. If you wish to host a table be sure to contact
the chairman for this event, GinaBelle Smith.
IN MEMORY
On December 24, 2004 Jack Secord passed away after a long
illness. He and his wife Mary have been members of our
club since 1983. The members who knew him appreciated
his quiet presence in all the activities in which he
participated.
