President’s Message:The theme I have chosen for my term in office is:

INCREASE our plant knowledge.

IMPROVE our community.

INSPIRE member fellowship through functions, projects and field trips.

Our club hosted the district picnic on June 25th at the Clearlake State Park. Fifty district members attended. Our immediate past president, Sharon Thorne, was installed as District Director for 2003-2006. Everyone enjoyed a very good lunch prepared by our members. After expenses we cleared $166 to be donated to the District Director’s, travel fund. Good job everyone.

Your officers and standing committee chairpersons met July 15th for a planning meeting. There were numerous good suggestions for next years’ programs and field trips which we hope you will enjoy.

Please plan to visit our garden exhibit “Jardin del Patio” at the Lake County Fair, August 28th through August 31st, 2003 in Lakeport. The committee has been hard at work planning the garden. Pat Hopper has designed and is painting the backdrop. It is going to be terrific.

Our first meeting for the next term will be September 16, 2003 at the Scotts Valley Women’s Club on Hendricks Rd., 12:30 P.M. social and 1 P.M. meeting. Our guest speaker will be Lori Wilcox who will tell us about growing lavender and show us some of the things that may be made from it.

Next year’s activities will also include:

  1. Wreath making and selling project on December 3, 4 & 5. Get your order for the wreaths in early. They will be $18 each as before.
  2. Christmas luncheon at Rainbow Restaurant on December 16, 2003.
  3. Daffodil Tea, March 16, 2004. An overall chairman is needed.
  4. Bi-annual plant sale, early in May 2004. Start potting your plants this fall. We will have a great location in Lakeport for the plant sale, thanks to Nancy Benkleman, but we need an overall chairman for this event too.

If you can fulfill either of these positions please call or e-mail Barbara Swanson. I am looking forward to the next two years as your president and I hope you will all enjoy the club’s activities.See you at the September meeting.
