Happy New Year everyone.
The last month of 2003 was a very good one for our club. We had
a wonderful membership turn out to make our Christmas
Wreaths. We made 156 in all, with 117 sold
and the rest made for themselves by the members that worked. It
was three days of hard work and a lot of fun. Thanks
to all who participated in this very successful fundraiser
with a special thank you to Donna Isley, for a bang-up
job as chairman.
Thirty-eight members and their guests enjoyed the Christmas luncheon
held at the Rainbow restaurant. It was reported that
the lunch was very good. We all had a festive time.
Jim Johnson of Johnson's Custom Landscaping gave us an informative talk
and answered many questions members had regarding
their landscaping problems at our first regular meeting
January 20th.
There is going to be a workshop before our February 17th meeting
at 10:30
A.M. Gretchen McDonald will be teaching us how to
make some cute wooden plant stakes, so plan to be
there. She requests that we bring a small paint
brush (like a small water color brush) with us and
the kits for the materials to make the stakes will
be $2.
The Daffodil Tea is coming up soon, March
16, 2004. It
will be held again at the Bachelor Valley Grange
Hall on Government Road in Upper Lake. It
begins at 12:00
P.M. This
event is for the members and their guests who look
forward to it every year. If you would like to have
a table of four or six you will need to contact the
Chairman, Jan Parkinson. Also, each member
is required to bring either two dozen tea sandwiches
or two dozen cookies. So contact Jan and get
signed up as soon as possible.
The club is going to team up with the Ukiah Garden Club for a bus
trip to the San
Francisco Flower Show on March 18, 2004. The bus
will leave from the Safeway parking lot in Lakeport
at 7:30
A.M. The
trip is open to members and friends. Thelma Dangel
is chairman for C.L.T.& T. Garden
Club so if you are interested in going please call
her.
April's meeting will have a program on Native and Ornamental Grasses
by Jim Pritchard of Herndon Creek Farms.
Now is the time to be thinking of preparations for our biannual plant
sale May 14 & 15, 2004. You will need to
have all your pots cleaned and sterilized, ready
for potting your plant divisions and other propagation. You
will need to start potting your plants soon. Leslie
Jones will be overall chairman of this event with
Mary Secord assisting. Please participate by helping
out at the sale as well as propagating plants to
sell.
